Lyon, April 2006 : Lyon (often Lyons in English) is a city in east central France, situated between Paris and Marseille, Location: 45°46′1″N, 4°50′3″E. Founded on the banks of the Rhone and the Saone, surrounded by two hills (Fourviere and Croix-Rousse), Lyon was originally a place of refuge for the Celtic peoples and was known as Condate. It was then named Lugdunum by the Romans (lug, the name of the God of the sun). In 1 BC, the emperor Augustus created the Three Gauls : Lyonnaise, Belgium and Aquitaine and proclaimed Lugdunum capital of the Gauls. This status enabled the city to become in three centuries a mojor economic, military and religious centre, its influence stretching far afield. Currently Lyon is the capital of the Rhône-Alpes région, and the préfecture (capital) of the Rhône département. As the third largest French city, it is a major centre of business, and has a reputation as the French capital of gastronomy. Together with its suburbs and satellite towns, Lyon forms the second largest metropolitan area in France after Paris, and approximately the 20th to 25th largest metropolitan area of Western Europe.

12 hours at bike city : one day in Amsterdam, with low budget airplane no hotel spent. Our day started with 4 am in the morning, preparing to go to the airport, for the 6.20 plane. 8.00 arrive in amsterdam, we bought aller-retour ticket train to the central station. rain during the train trip 9.00 arrive at central station, walking direction to Dam square, royal palace. rain was just stopped, a little bit of sun, and then wind came. Some snow rain dropped, then stopped again, but we kept walking to direction Jordaan quarter and then back to Dam square again 11.30 took the tram to Leidseplein. walking direction to Vondel Park, sun came out a few minutes then suddenly wind and sleet again. felt almost like under the hail. and then abrupt change again to sun shine 12.00 went to Rijk museum. Spent 1 hour there while it was raining outside. Then we went to have lunch of Nasi Rames and Pepes ikan at Indonesian restaurant around the Leidseplein. 13.45 went back to Central station, then walked passed the red light district, direction to nieumarkt, china town of amsterdam. Bought some food stuffs, met lots of indonesians. The snow and wind came back again 15.30 took the one hour boat trip around the canal. A bit dark, difficult to take photos, but quite enjoyable. at least we got some rest for the legs :) 17.00 back to central station, bought some souvenirs and tried to take some evening pictures. didn't bring tripod so had to depend on the already stiff, cold hands. 17.45 went to brasserie caffe at Central station for club sandwich and the appel struddle with cream, mmm.. then took the train to schippol. 18.45 arrived at the airport and had some time to walked around before going to the gate 20.00 already at the gate. finished the 12 hours. but not quite finished actually, as the plane was late, then some ice on the wings, et cetera et cetera, we were so relieved when finally arrived at home at 23.30

Barcelona : My family and I has been long wanted to go to Spain, finally we managed to go on 17-20 August 2004. Since it was a budget travel, we did not travel much, our destination is mainly Barcelona, only half day we could go to costa brava. Being the capital of Catalunia, we found Barcelona is quite modern and cosmopolitan city, though it reserves many of historical architectures. It has a valuable architectural and monumental heritage, and its Gothic buildings. Of course we were amazed by the works of Gaudí, Gaudí is the city’s most internationally renowned and emblematic architect. And since we went with the kids, we spared our time in l'aquarium de barcelona where we could walk through a tunnel under the water and see sharks and fish of all shapes and sizes and the zoo whose dolphin show. There’s so much to see we found that 4 days were not enough.
